{Old Ads} Grocery Advertisements

This was taken from The Abbeville press and banner (Abbeville, S.C.), November 19, 1869
Yesterday I posted an ad from the same paper, but that was for the selling of the "grocery" business. A few pages later you can find an ad listing what the grocer has recently procured in way of goods.
I think my favorite line of this ad is :
Persons indebted are required to pay. Indulgences will not be granted. It's costs should be added to their accounts, they can only blame themselves. The law WILL be resorted to, if settlement is not made immediately.
I imagine that this is in part due to the man's wish to retire. He does not want anyone owing debts in the case that someone buys him out. It also might be that he's frustrated with so many not paying their dues.
Either way...

I always think it's interesting to see the wide range of items that you can shop for...from horseshoes to lard to shotguns.

RIght? A man could go in and get everything he needed for the household duties he's in charge of, and the woman can do the same. I don't see needle and thread on this list, but that was something a store like this would have carried as well as bolts of fabric.
