Why does my dog follow me?

I had a dog for 12 long years. A very friendly dog who loved me and my family very much. The only thing I disliked was he always followed me everywhere in the house. He will watch my every move from a distance and laydown there. If I ever try to close the door to avoid his glance he would start to scratch the door and bark. There was never a perfect answer from the vet other than your dog loves you the most. But for all practical reasons my dog was closer to my mother as she was the one who fed him, groomed him and took care of him when he was sick. I too did chip in to help my mother but whenever I was in the house he would just follow me like my shadow. Does your dog follow you? Did you find the answer for such behaviour? What could be the possible reason?

Dogs have different behaviors depending on the person. Luna wags her tail in a crazy way when Tania comes and she often pees when she meets her. We have a different relation although she lives with me and she is MY dog. I think that dogs know what they can do with each person.

@jayanth_77 She obeys some orders. It depends on the tone. I don“t like her to be playful when I bend to fill her dish, specially if I bring her some wet human food.

Yeah, mine follow me everywhere. It can get annoying but had dogs so long, think would feel sad if did not have my side shadow. The one I currently have is the worse. She goes crazy anytime I leave house and so excited when come back. I am like I was only gone for 10 minutes. I have to correct her many times. because where they are bordering obsessive disorder.

@jayanth_77 Haha, not laughing at you but with you. My other one loves doing that and been there. I damn near get killed when its dark. She is so big takes up so floor. She will eventually move because can tell it irritates me. I had one where did not care but to be fair she goes I am getting old. I cannot just move, so I will try to kill you.

@crossbones27 really funny . Dogs do have the habit of lying down near your feet or the walk way which you often use and least expect to find a dog.

Yes sometimes it gets too annoying. Many a times I tripped over my dog and fell face down. Was really in pain for many days. It looks like the behaviour is common in dogs but why do they do it?

Yes dogs hug their master when they leave or return. It's such a nice feeling to be loved.

@jayanth_77 I believe dogs are loyal to whoever is nice to them while I believe cats choose one person to love. Maybe your dog did love you very much is why he or she followed you inside all the time.
