The unknown caller

I was happy when I didn't have a mobile phone. If if had to call someone I just needed to go to a nearby telephone booth and make the call.
But now it has become impossible to survive without a mobile phone. It has become easier to contact someone and be in touch. Mobile technology has changed our lives drastically. I receive more incoming calls that the outgoing calls I ever make. The unknown calls are usually of someone selling a insurance policy or asking for donation. The call could come at odd times and at odd places. You don't have peace even when you are in the washroom.
When you return you find half a dozen missed calls. You never know who has called and how important the call is. So you call back to hear the never ending promotion making you feel like pulling your hairs.
Do you get such unknown calls?
How do you manage unknown calls?

I don’t usually answer unknown caller. They needed to send me SMS first. I think there’s an option in your phone settings to block unknown caller

well I tried the option but the caller never calls from the same number. I need to answer the call atleast once to know the caller purpose.

@jayanth_77 there’s also an app to block unknown caller. This one works for me... try Truecaller

I do not answer when the number of the caller is not known to me. All legitimate callers are in my directory.

@jayanth_77 if a legitimate caller is not answered then he should text me.

yes blocking a call is better if it's a repeated number.

You are doing the right thing by not answering the calls.

I read the other responses and I understand you don't like to use truecaller app but if you ask me, that's how I've been managing with these spammers for years now but so far so good. I haven't faced any ID theft issues or anything of that sort till now and I assume it's safe for common people to use who would only have money related information at the max to be considered as sensitive and private. It is safe that far I believe, from my experience.
