{Old Ads} Hood's Pills for "worn" women

Taken from The New York journal and advertiser (New York [N.Y.]), September 3, 1898 You half believe it, don't you? I think that's my favorite line from the clipping. Of course, most of the medicines of that day had more alcohol than medicine, and whatever herbs were in it could just as easily cause havoc than help it. Sasparilla for instance, one of the active ingredients in this, increased sweating and the necessity to use the bathroom... not that alcohol doesn't already do that for you anyway.

They really thought of women as weak back in the day.

I often wonder exactly how week the average man thought a woman to be. I'm willing to bet that there were a large group of men that may have recognized a woman's strength, and feared it.

@simone10 They really are. It surprises me how men can have a cold and they think it's the end of the world. Women have a cold and they clean the house, do the shopping, come home and cook, take care of the babies, help with homework etc. Men just lie in bed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think women are a lot stronger than men. That's why God has women giving birth and not men. Men are such babies when it comes to being sick or in pain.

I'm sure plenty of women did. This isnt' even the only seller of that time marketing such things. It was just as likely that the men bought it for their wives than that the wives bought it for themselves.

As do I. It's a door into their world, for sure. I also watch videos of people metal detecting sites that were known to be old homesteads or places where battles were fought.
