The Difficulty of Keeping Canaries

Canary bird

I have at least three times tried raising canaries. I like it because the color of the feathers is beautiful and especially the sound is very melodious and varied. But in the end all three birds died. At first they were exposed to a disease which caused many bumps in the legs. over time their appetite decreases, then they die. Though I have given various kinds of drugs but to no avail. Maybe this is fate.

Canaries are beautiful birds. I was just going through various sites to know about the cause of the bumps in the feet you mentioned. It is called bumble foot caused due to lack of nutrition or Physical activity. mites also seem to attack the bird feet by burrowing into them.

Maybe that can happen because I always use the same cage. Is there a right medicine to cure it?

@Babale on searching the term Bumble foot I got the treatment as Treatment often requires opening the wound to drain the pus, soaking it in epsom salts, and antibiotic treatment and local application of the antiseptic povidone-iodine ( betadin ) as local dressing. it's is caused by bacteria.

Oh, I'm so sorry. My father had canaries and parakeets, but the parakeets outlived the canaries for some reason.

Yes, it seems like canaries are more susceptible to disease than other domestic birds.

This bird is widely bred in Indonesia, from the cheapest to most expensive prices available. The most expensive imported from England, the type of Yorkshire.

I used to have these birds when I was a child. They didn’t live long.
