A lesson learnt for life.

I studied in a christian missionary school where discipline was very important. It so happened one day that I forgot to bring my painting kit to school. As per rules I would have to stand outside my class if i didn't bring a subject related items like a text book or notebook etc So to escape punishment without the teacher's or the principal's permission I quietly went to my house nearby and returned to my school with the painting kit I had forgotten . But to my utter shock my principle was standing right at the gate . I tried to explain with tears in my eyes but to no avail. I was asked to stand at the main gate holding the kit on my head till the school ended . The punishnent looked harsh but an important lesson learnt of discipline. Have you ever been punished at school? How was the experience? What lesson you learnt?

I don't think the punishment fit the crime. That was way too harsh. I have never needed punishment in school. because I was a a Goody Two Shoes.

I was punished once by my vice-principal when I told him about a suspected partiality by school gate Monitors with regards to uniform. He twisted my ears. Now a days, such a punishment would invite protests by parents. But not in those days. I learnt that one cannot take on higher ups in authorities anywhere in a straightforward manner, even if one is right. So one has to be diplomatic and plan accordingly.

Yes you are right. When we take on higher authorities even if we are right we will be punished if we are not diplomatic.

I went to a religious school where we would be slapped on the hands with a rubber strap, five times in each hand and if we moved the hand it didn't count, when we misbehaved in any way and it really hurt so we tried to really behave.

@jayanth_77 The rubber strap hurt but my hands are still good decades later and so it left no permanent damage. It must have done some good as I have never been in prison for breaking any major laws.

@kanuck1 yes any punishment must have a long lasting impact on a child without causing serious injury. Mistakes need to be corrected so that they don't become a habit.

That's too harsh. But glad you learnt a lesson well. I never advocate fro reward or punishment. Luckily my parents had the same rule and I don't remember getting any punishment in school unless it was for whole class. And I was a naughty kid.

But this punishment was better than the harsh punishment of hitting with a stick or ruler on hands and legs . Kids bleed and sometime need first aid treatment

@jayanth_77 That's horrible! Glad that I worked in schools that followed Montessori principle or Waldrof principle. Both do not support reward or punishment.

Yes I also have lot of incidents in my school days.. I studied completely our Government schools only. Hear also follow strike rules. I also stand out side the class room for not giving correct answer which my teacher asking.. Then after day I must go schools vevising previous class lessons.. Those are golden days. But very useful in our journey.

yes I agree . School learning is important. You learn life skills in addition to the subjects and are just as important.
