On a hot Saturday I’m happy to be sitting in an air conditioned restaurant, enjoying lunch. I’m also happy to spring another song on you from my list of favorites that have the word “home” in the title. Here’s one that the younger people probably haven’t ever heard and the older people couldn’t get away from!
#7: Lonesome and a Long Way From Home - Delaney & Bonnie & Friends
I’m serious, you couldn’t avoid this song in the early 70s if you tried. The song’s writers recorded it. Eric Clapton (one of the “friends” on Delaney & Bonnie’s big hit “Never-Ending Song of Love”) recorded it on his first album. Jerry Garcia recorded it. Heck, even Earl Scruggs recorded it!
All of that was in a short span of time in the early 70s, and it’s faded in popularity. So, as I said, the young’n’s haven’t ever heard this one, most likely. But if you had Clapton’s first album you know his bluesy rendition.
Enjoy this great tune again....or for the first time.
