Zabaglione (or Zabaione) is an Italian dessert or beverage made from egg yolks, sugar and sweet wine, such as marsala or sometimes a cognac. The dessert is whipped into a light custard and is usually served with some type of fruit. With some varieties, the dessert can be finished with a meringue or whipped cream. It is said that in Tuscany, Zabaglione dates back to the 16th century. In another area, it is said to have been named after Giovanni Baglioni in 1471. Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons

I used to have that all the time on strawberries for dessert. I learned how to make it, but stopped due to having to use raw eggs.

There are recipes on the internet in which you make the custard in a double boiler. Alton Brown has one that sounds good. That way the eggs are cooked.

I think I remember this from watching one of my favorite Italian chefs on YouTube.
