That time men died at the hands of horsemen.

There is a TL;DR (Too Long ; Didn't Read) at the end, so if you aren't going to read the discussion, atleast read that, yeah? yeah.
We filed out of the classroom for the last time, giving a tearful goodbye to our teacher as we walked to meet our parents just outside the door of the building. The building had two stories, both of them with twelve or so classes on each level.
I saw my parents as soon as we descended, standing next to two of their helpers, with parents standing all around them. I picked up my skirts and ran the last few feet and into my mother's waiting arms. My father gave me an awkward pat on the shoulder, not being one for shows of affection.
I nodded at our helpers, a father and son, who offered me brilliant smiles. We were just about to quit the building alongside all of my classmates when an announcement was made from just outside the door.
Listen Carefully! I am afraid that we have just had word of an attack a few miles North of us. We ask that all students return to their classrooms with their families and lock the door behind them.
Several of the fathers in our group moved forward, as if to offer resistance, but the voice spoke again.
We ask that the men stay inside with their families. We hope the party does not breach the building, but if they do we need menfolk inside.
The speaker then waved his arms towards the building, encouraging us all to go back inside and do as we were bid.
I won't bore you with the hours spent within the classroom, and how hot it became with so many bodies stuck in such a small space.
The next day arrived and we tried to file out again, but the same man was there again asking us to stay within. I recognized him as the owner of the school, though the running of it was left to his wife. We trudged back up the stairs, many of us starving from not eating since the morning before.
At noon, a paltry meal was delivered to us, but no news was given. This continued at dinner, then breakfast the next day. Three days passed in this manner, with everyone getting understandably restless. A few theorized that there was no threat at all, and that we should all just leave.
A few of the father's agreed, but the mother's were able to reason with them and we stayed put for a few more days. By the end of the week, the food had become less and less, and we were tired and sore.
The men decided we were all to leave, and they led us out and towards the stables. We had only moved a few feet out of the door when we noticed a band of men on horses opposite us, many of them holding weapons. We froze for long moments before the men instructed all the women and girls to go back inside and hide.
We watched from windows as our father's tried to hold their own, but many of them fell at the hands of the horsemen. I watched as my father was trampled on by a horse, surely dead if he had not been before.
Mother whimpered and turned her head, and I wrapped my arms around her as best I could.
Minutes that seemed like hours passed before the fighting stopped. Most of the men lay dead or dying, so the horsemen retreated. My parents helpers stood among the few men that survived.

TL;DR : I had a dream that I was a girl of about fifteen or so and away at an all girl's school. My parents came along with two of their helpers to retrieve me, but we were all forced to stay indoors from fear of a raiding party. There was more to the dream than what I wrote.

Whoa! I thought this was a story you are writing, but this was a dream?

Yep, it was.
Yesterday I watched a video on youtube which was a recording made in the 1930's of a former slave explaining what it was like to be a slave. I think that's what encouraged this dream, that and a movie a family member was watching.
The "helpers" I referred to were actaully former slaves in my dream.

@Carmelanirel2 A lot of times what i've read or watched features in my dreams. Sometimes things just come out of the blue.
I had a complex dream sometime last year that I think was more a representation of a past life than anything else. It's hard to explain, but I just felt as if I was seeing something I had seen before. All the items in the dream were things I was very familiar with, but none of those items were things I use today.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Wow, does that happen a ,lot? Where you watch something and then dream about it? I know back when the state was shut down I binge watched Person of Interest and then starting having dreams about it, but I think it was because I was watching multiple episodes a day.

There's no way that dream was 30 seconds! :-) That was quite intense that you were stuck in the school for so long and then came outside and many were killed by the horsemen! What does it all mean?

Well, I don't know what it all might mean but I have an idea that it was a culmination of a few things. A relative was watching an old western movie and I watched a few minutes of it with him. I also watched a video on youtube of a recording from the 1930's. The recording was of a man who was once a slave.
Those two things contributed, at least.

@LindaOHio Well, this is where I believe that our ancestors, and even who we are in past lives, are imprinted upon us. I know not everyone believes in past lives, and I can respect that. However, I think people have to agree that the fiber of our being is intrinsically connected with out heritage.
Wow, I feel like that was a tongue twister and made little sense. Basically, I believe that sometimes our dreams are more a reflection of what we once knew, or what our ancestors once knew.
I'm more spiritualistic than religious.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Interesting how our minds take in and catalogue all that information.
