Imagin you are on a boat with a small baby and an old lady on a mighty River.
Your boat develops a small crack while in the middle of the river and the water starts to enter your boat. Your are the only one who knows to swim.
There are people on the river bank but they don't know to swim.
How will save the old lady and the baby from getting drowned and also reach the shore safely.

Before I answer the question, let me toss this question to you. How in the world would I ride a boat with a baby and an old woman to cruise on a might river? Just taking that ride is already a big risk so I don't think that can happen to me.

@jayanth_77 yes, I know that it can happen but not to me so I cannot answer. I have learned PPA - that is potential problem analysis. The moment I would take the boat ride, I would check who would be with me. So prevention is the best and not the contingent action. I am sorry to ruin your puzzle but you said it is true and my answer is also true to my experience. I cannot imagine that it will happen to me.

It could be possible. Why not? During a flood people leave their house taking along old people, babies and even pet animals on what ever makeshift item available and reach safe shore.
This is a real boat but unfortunately has got a leaky floor. You are the only one who can help.

Imagine you know to swim. Ok even if you don't know to swim how will you ensure all 3 of you reach the shore safely. There are people on the shore but don't know to swim. Such things happen many times in real life and people do get saved.

@mrki444 Haven't you crossed a river on a boat? Such things are quiet common.

@jayanth_77 I'm not sure if it would work, but its worth a try. I love these kind of questions. They make you think.

That's an interesting question . There has to be some way we could save them let's see .
It would be possible to block the flow of the water with something while we get to the shore . I don't think this plan has a 100% success rate , but it's worth noting .

@jayanth_77 then those people could throw me one end of the rope if the boats not too for away from the shore , then the people on the could pull us to the shore before the boat drowns

people on the bank throw a long rope which you will pickup and tie to your boat. The people wil then pull the rope.

I would have someone from the shore hold out a long branch or rope and combination of swim and pull all of us to shore.

I hope you are a good swimmer capable of taking both the old lady and the child safely to the bank. Carry the old lady first so the water inflow to the boat will be reduced due to reduced weight. Come back and carry the child. Come back again to carry you boat if you care for it.

@jayanth_77 Good but only problem there should be long enough rope near by.

your idea is good. But as it is a river I cannot leave the child in the boat while carrying the lady as the river water will take away the boat due to the current. It's better if the people throw the rope close to the boat so that I can collect it and tie it to the boat. the people can then pull the boat safely to the river bank.

pulling with a rope is a good idea. But can the old lady do it on her own. She could better hold the baby while you hold the rope while people pull you to safety.

@jayanth_77 It depends how old the old lady is and if she works out.
And wouldn’t the boat sink taking on water?
. Lots of ifs.

@DianneN no the boat won't sink as it's a wooden boat but still it will get submerged.

the ones on the shore dont know to swim. they will instead throw a rope for you to catch hold and tie it to your boat. The people will then pull your boat to the bank.

have the old lady hold the baby on the remaining floating part of the boat and swim to shore!

May be the swimming person fastly go to the bank of river ,taking one roap ,one side he ask help of the other people who stand in the bank, another side he again come fast on jointing the boat. Then on his guidelines all reach the back with help of other side bank people.
I think this is my idea, don't know I am correct or not.

@Lakshman15 the rope is indeed part of the answer. You are so close. Don't give up.

You are really good and coming closer to the solution but a sinking boat is difficult to row. Can the people standing on the shore be of some help?
