I think this memory got recycled

Yesterday I walked into the kitchen and looked towards the refrigerator. On the side we have lots of magnets that have been collected over the years. These magnets hold recipes, coupons, pictures and phone numbers.
The recycling bin sits right beside the refrigerator and is filled with recycles before we dump it into the big recycling receptacle outside. I was looking for a particular picture that we have hanging on the fridge, but I'm afraid it has gone the way of the recycles.
The picture above is one I took yesterday, it shows the length of my blanket so far. This blanket will be made with different colors and using the double crochet stitch. I'm not concerned with how many rows I'll make with each color, nor am I looking for a specific length.
I will be adding new yarn by tying a knot and clipping the excess yarn. I am going to try to keep each row one color, but I won't be upset if some rows have a stitch or two of a different color. I am learning / practicing and having fun in the process.
Have you picked up a new / old hobby during this time?
*The top loop in the picture is where I need to chain two to turn.

Thank You, I have a lot of fun doing it. Eventually I want to be confident using a crochet hook again.

@ScribbledAdNauseum If you keep on practicing you will be confident using the crochet hook sooner than you think.

@thelme55 Yes I agree. I am also looking at youtube for tips and tricks that were not available when I first tried to crochet with a hook.

I should get out my crochet project and work on it. I started a doll for Little Miss in March and it isn't finished yet. Once I started sewing masks, everything else was put to the sidelines.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yes it is the entire doll. The hair is braided using yarn.

I watched a video yesterday where this woman gave 25 crochet tips. One of them was to set a timer for twenty five minutes and focus only on crocheting. Once that timer is finished, set another time for five or ten minutes and tend to things you need to tend to. Then set another timer for 25 minutes and crochet uninterrupted.
My mother used to crochet dresses for dolls, and I believe she crocheted them for my barbies as well. She never crocheted an entire toy though. You are crocheting the whole doll?

I plan to learn how to crochet. Some people make some of the prettiest items. Just keep it up

Youtube is an invaluable resource. What I would suggest is getting a relatively cheap skein of yarn and practicing the stitches with your fingers before investing more. I had some yarn left over from a failed attempt at loom knitting, and so I practiced what I had learned about crocheting years ago, and then went on youtube for the rest.

The last blanket I crocheted, I used the half-double-crochet stitch. It's a really quick stitch to make. I held two yarns together to make the blanket and thicker for my friend I gifted the blanket to. He really appreciated it because he's so cold-natured in the winter.

The first blanket I made followed a tutorial using three yarns in the super bulky # 6 category. I don't think I'll ever make that one again as it hurt my hands when I was making it.
I like the HDC stitch.

That's one thing I've never tried, but I eventually want to. I have one that we used as a tree skirt when I was little...

I've been having a hankering to do some needlepoint or some kind of stitchery; but I gave all that stuff away when my hands started getting too arthritic. I'd also like to do a jigsaw puzzle.

Jigsaw puzzles can be fun. I've seen some really pretty ones that I'd love to do if I had the space for it.
I don't know if this would help at all...
Have you felt the pain of needlework with arthritis? Helpful tricks can help you meld arthritis, knitting, cross-stitch and crocheting.

That looks so nice! I think I mentioned this before, but we got into kitchen scrap gardening . . . and now we're moving some of them out to the yard for some real gardening. Sorry about the memory possibly being tossed out . . . I am sure that has happened to some of our stuff . . . but it's been so long now that it's out of sight, out of mind kinda thing.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Normally it would have gone to waste here . . . but the pandemic has forced us to be less wasteful - or at least be more mindful about it anyway.

@much2say That reminds me, we are starting to keep track of how much we spend on groceries each week to get an idea of how the prices are fluctuating.

The photo wasn't the best, so I'm not really upset about it.
I keep thinking that I'd love to do that kind of gardening, but I believe a lot of it would go to waste here.

I am going to try to pick up bobbin lace making this summer--I got some wooded clothes pins to use as bobbins and I have some lace cotton and pins--I need to find an old pillow that is somewhat firm and a board or cardboard to attach it to--

@ScribbledAdNauseum Now seems to be the perfect time for all that--our Goodwills are not open yet--and our numbers are climbing right now--so it may be a while before they are open and even longer until I feel comfortable going into one--so I am poking around my house and making do--

@divalounger Right, I want to go to goodwill, among other places, but I only got o one store and back now. Ours are climbing too, and county wise - we are among the top for cases in the state.

I know the goodwill's around me usually have a plethora of old pillows and the such. Not sure if yours are open at the moment.
I've been looking through herrschners as they have lots of different crafty kits, and think I might get myself in trouble with a few I'd like to buy and try.

I write as well. Every day, no matter if it's just three hundred words or one thousand words. It's fun, isn't it?
