I have been utterly destroyed by this book. I actually wrote a review saying much the same. I do not want to say a lot about the book itself in case someone here wants to read it. However, I will say that the author does an excellent job of making you feel for the characters. You find yourself endeared to one of the main characters who is slowly revealed to have the same beating heart as those who view him as the enemy. The author walks with you on a journey, and then at the last moment she pitches you down the hillside careening towards the rocky shore below. I loved it.

I love a story line that draws the reader in, to actually feel what the characters experience.

As do I. I want to fully escape when I read, something that draws me in and makes it hard for me to put a book down. That's exactly what this book was.

@Tina30219 Me too. With these hot summer days, I mostly read, write, come online, and rinse and repeat.

I love books that aren't predictable and have a surprise ending.

This one was definitely that. They also waited until nearly the last minute. Not many books I read do that.

@simone10 I feel like I read the predictable books faster. I can read the books with lots of twists and turns fast, but generally I like to read it slower, and pause and try to guess.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You are so right. There are times when my mind is tired and I want a simple read so I don't mind books that are a little predictable. But most of the time I like being surprised.

@RubyHawk That is where I found it. I do have physical copies of books and like them somewhat, but I don't really have a comfortable place to read them.

@haraka I don't use goodreads very often. I used to try to keep up with the books I read, but since I usually use my kindle, I just let the kindle app track it.

It was a really good book. I looked at other books from the author, but inevitably ended up picking another book I've heard a lot about. I don't actually end up reading half the books people recommend here. I'm too picky.
