Flying from my wallet

Good Morning! It seems money is flying from my wallet. Yesterday I made a few purchases while in the mountains, and today I've made a few necessary purchases and one not so necessary purchase. I also have a purchase that has yet to be debited as I am waiting for it to ship to me. I have used Rakuten (Cash back service) for a few of them. I purchased two things on ebay today but it only seems to credit me for one, maybe because they are from two different shops and rakuten doesn't recognize that. I don't know but oh well, I will get some change back anyway. The good thing is that the money I've spent is "extra money". It will not put a dent in anything. What's the most expensive item you've bought lately?

I have spent too much money lately. My husband was laid off for 3 weeks and we worry that they will shut down for good and he will say we can't afford to live here and want to move to his home province, which I am not willing to do. My kids are here. I have my inheritance money but what I have in my main account is dwindling quickly. I don't want to dig into my investments. I have purchased new curtains for our family room (about $80+) and my husband's birthday was in May, and then Father's Day. My daughter's birthday was in April. And Lordy, another birthday coming up in August. Not to mention helping out by paying for groceries for a few months. I get cash back when I use my Air Miles card (I get those points by purchasing through the Air Miles Store - it's just like Rakuten as it is a mall of stores online, my grocery store, the gas station, the liquor store, etc.). My pharmacy used to be on that program but have changed to their own program. I seem to be getting more cash back from their new program. I also use apps like Checkout 51 (I just cashed that out at $75 so waiting for that cheque in the mail) and Receipt Hog which gives me points and a chance to win a trip. I'm almost at the top points to get me $25 gift card to Amazon, VISA or in Paypal. My daughter uses Rakuten but geez, she does a lot of online shopping!

I hope that they will not shut down for good. My friend has had to deal with furloughs lately and messing with unemployment so that she can get a paycheck from that. Everyone is suffering so much with this pandemic going on. Rakuten is okay, and I use it because it gives me some cash, but I do not make nearly as much as what the commercials suggest. I use Ibotta, but well I haven't been using it a lot lately. I am glad you still have your Air Miles rewards and the Checkout 51 and Receipt Hog. Those pennies coming in do help a lot!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I took on the payment for our credit card. I have been charging groceries to that card, though I stopped doing that and started using our joint account. Although hubby got the government emergency payment when he got laid off, I decided I'd better use the credit card again. I also pay for all my pharmacy purchases myself (and I take a lot of vitamins). I'm not as bad as the girls who are still constantly purchasing online, but I have shopped a bit more than usual. Not interested in standing in a line-up outside a store to shop. Gotta reign it in.

@patgalca I do not blame you for using the credit card. I know people here still haven't gotten the stimulus checks that they were expecting, and of course tax refunds seem to be on delay too. Which vitamins do you take? Right now I take the DIM supplement to help balance my hormones. I have considered also taking Vitamin D as I don't believe I get enough from my diet or the sun.

I bought six magic scarves that were around 15 dollars each. But I mostly bought them with Amazon gift cards. I will buying two calendars and some cat food for Lily soon.

I've been looking at these scarves that may be what you are calling magic scarves. They are a tube like type of material that you fit over your head like a shirt. From SAfishing.com.

@JESSY3236 I think they would be more comfortable and not as likely to want to come off.

I try to be conscientious of my frivolous purchases. Yesterday I did not purchase as many things as I would have liked. Today - I've purchased a lot!

My two biggest purchase were the sewing machine I bought in late March, and my portable air conditioner. Both were necessary purchases. Lately I find that I can't find anything on Rakuten other than coupons. There was a time when I got at least 6% back or more from my purchases.

@ScribbledAdNauseum during this pandemic I have seen posts from many people who have never sewn before telling tales of their first sewing experience. Many took up sewing masks. There are great tutorials on Youtube that help. I always went to Rakuten first before I shopped for anything on JC Penney, Walmart, or any store really. I have given up on using it now.

@ElusiveButterfly For me, Rakuten is a "Maybe I'll get $5.00 every few years" type of thing. I don't always remember to use it. Yes, I feel like a lot of people have taken up things they normally had never thought to try before.

I have noticed that as well. They got rid of Etsy sometime earlier this year or last and I was upset about that. They don't have walmart.com either which I think is weird. I use Ebay and Michael's with them. I would love to learn to sew, even if it was just the most basic of stitches.

@CarolDM Yes, we were on it for a bit today. Cut out some of the traffic we would have experienced, and gave us a little more time at GFA. The blueridge is just breathtaking.

I do not spend money on beauty things like that anymore. i used to get my eyebrows waxed every two weeks and also got my hair cut more regularly. Now i try to buy the cheapest thing and I don't wear make up. It's good to splurge on things we love from time to time.

Yes, sometimes we can't help but make a few purchases. You use programs that help you get cash back, don't you?
