{Old Newspapers} Home Comfort Range

United States

Clipped from The gold leaf March 14, 1895. Found on LOC.GOV It has been awhile since I've done one of these. I haven't really been looking through the old newspapers lately, but I went through one today and I liked this ad. I've seen these types of stoves in action before. In all honesty, I would love to try one out just once, just to feel closer to what the ancestors may have dealt with.

There was a post in the Facebook Marketplace that had a stove/refrigerator/sink unit for sale. Took me a minute to realize that I once rented an apartment that had one of these units. Then I saw an older gas stove that looked well used. I didn't remember seeing a stove like that, but am sure that it was a big item back in the day! Amazing how far we have come in such a short period of time.

@ElusiveButterfly To be honest, I have once thought about buying a pie safe. I like the way they look, but of course I have no room for it.

Yes, it really is amazing. People were and still are eager to make the every day chores easier for us. I wonder if that stove/fridge/sink combo ever found a home?

My Mom had one similar to that one when I was very young, it had the water reservoir for hot water and used coal. It was used for cooking and heating, wow what a flashback.

There is a man and woman who live in Washington (state) and they live like Victorians. They own one of these ranges. One of my grandmothers' had a wood stove as it came with the home she rented. It was interesting to me as a kid.

@gr8nana6 No, they really didn't. Had to order ice for the icebox, matches and coal or wood. Washing was an all day affair etc. Got to appreciate those men and women who were tired and just wanted a more convenient way to do things. We owe a woman for the invention of the dishwasher, for instance.

I Think I can imagine. There were several different types of cooking with fire in the old days.

Wow from the looks of it, it looks like bigger and needs more space than the stove nowadays I guess technology makes stuffs getting smaller yet the function is getting better

It is a bit wider, yes. There weren't really countertops in that time period.

I agree. I love it! I even look at the things around me and see hints of the past. I like travelling by car because I can glimpse these things.

Really good. I don't store newspapers usually. I used to give it to the provisional stores.

I don't store them either... This is found online (hence the first line saying it was found on LOC.GOV)
