Well, a broken pelvis at 88 cannot be good, but they already have my step-mother up and walking. For a very short period, mind you, but it's not like a broken hip where you can't put any weight on it at all for 6 weeks. Still, she needs to go into a rehab and someone still needs to take care of dad. But it sounds like a broken pelvis (depending on how badly broken, I'd guess) is not as bad as breaking a hip. And thank goodness. My mom and my aunt Natalie did not survive a broken hip.
