Had a Hot Shaved Beef Sandwich with Onion Last Night, Now I am Paying for it!!

I bought some shaved beef with my last grocery order. Sauteed a huge onion with some garlic in a little olive oil. Added the shaved beef, salt and pepper, then topped it with some shredded cheese. Smelled great as it was cooking and my husband enjoyed his sandwiches after they were made.
This morning though, the air in my home has the smell of stinky onion. I do have an air freshening wax melt going to try to dissipate the odor. However, it only smells like Febreze and stinky onion.
I don't want to wrap the onion skins in a plastic bag to toss it out. I feel that is wasteful. We are supposed to compost, but with bears already coming into our neighborhood to dine on the trash buffet, we do not compost at this time.
So, until the trash bag is full, we will have to put up with the onion aroma.
How do you deal with unwanted smells? Sprays, candles, wax melts?

@DianneN when we look or a home I am going to test out the fan to make sure it works properly. LOL.

I use the vent when cooking. It is loud, but not powerful enough to take the odors out of the air.

@ElusiveButterfly Sorry to hear that. It sounds like our old one. When we remodeled our kitchen, we had a 6 burner range top installed and needed a powerful vent put in. It's not too quiet, but does the job.

I don't know modify a compost pile? A box inserted into the ground and bury the produce with soil each time so as to prevent smells from exiting? When I cook onions it takes at least a day for the house to air out.

Onions and fish are difficult odors to remove from the air. I should have cooked outside and tossed the onion skins into the woods.

Usually works too.

Oh that would work too. But, I usually use up a loaf of bread pretty quick. My hubby eats sandwiches every day.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I have used baking soda and actually considered sprinkling some in the trash can.

Opened rice that has gone over the date is a good one also if you have any or loose flour absorbs the worst of the odour sorry to put it like that.

We use onions all the time, but I guess I've never thought of onion smells as being bad. I really should make a compost bin . . . but otherwise, admittedly we do just put the skins in the trash. We don't use any sprays or fragrance things here . . . those scents actually give us a headache.

They say you can save the skins and peels off the onion and also other vegetables and freeze them. After you have collected a good amount they can be boiled down to a vegetable broth. My son does this quite a lot and uses it in soups.

If Lysol spray doesn't get rid of unwanted smells, I might light a candle, or put out a bowl of vinegar.

I did use a disinfectant store brand spray. It worked. Never thought to set out a bowl of vinegar!

I do like the smell of them while cooking. But, the smell of them in the trash is a different story.

We don't have a garage. Have big trash cans outside, but I don't want to put a half empty bag out.

@ElusiveButterfly When I peel an onion or garlic, I wrap the skins in a plastic grocery bag and put in trashcan outside.
