In my Indonesian language,if we to ask someone's name, we say "siapa namamu?" If we translate that to English literally, it is "who is your name?" "What" in Indonesian is "apa", but we may not say "apa namamu?" But it is meaningless in Indonesian and may cause people confused. Language is confusing

There is an old tv series called Mind Your Language. It is about a school for adults who are learning English. It is funny with the foreigners to speak - Spanish, Indian, German, etc.

yes languages are confusing if we use the literal meaning during translation. By the way Indonesia and hindi ( India's national language) looks similar. What's your name ? translates to Apka naam kya hai - in hindi.

@nawala123 yes you are right. Do you know to read sanskrit . if you know hindi, sanskrit is easy to read but you won't understand the meaning unless you have been taught in school. I recite mantras ( hindu vedic text ) daily from Bhagwat Gita and they are in sanskrit but listen to the translation on youtube

Yep, same with English - why we drive on the parkway and park our vehicle on a driveway.
