Day 346 Promise 425 Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19 And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. When someone asks you to do something, do you stop what you’re doing and do what they asked? Jesus had nothing at this time to recommend Him, yet he saw four fishermen mending their nets and asked them to follow Him. Without hesitation, they left their work and followed Him. As Christians, you know Jesus is the Savior, the promised Messiah. You know, having read the account in Matthew previous to this that Jesus is the promised Savior. Yet, do you know anything more about Jesus to this point? Put yourselves in these men’s shoes without further knowledge of Jesus, it would seem foolish to stop what they were doing and follow Jesus. Yet that is what they did. Now, fast forward to today. Jesus still asks people to follow Him and make them fishers of men. Have you answered the call to preach the good news to whoever Jesus will lead you? Or do you expect someone else to do what God called you to do? We hear stories about missionaries who gave their lives for the gospel. We entertain missionaries in our churches and hear their stories and many are moved to help those called to the mission field. Do you know you are called to the mission field? Your mission field is outside your door. It’s your neighbor, co-worker, family members. You don’t need fundraisers to go to a foreign mission field when the field is within reach. It’s even on the Internet. You have the ability to tell everyone about Jesus and what He did for them. Jesus called Andrew, Peter, James, and John to be fishers of men. He is calling you to be the same. Every time you tell someone about Jesus, you are working in your calling. Have you done any fishing lately? Let’s pray: Father, help me be a fisherman and tell everyone I meet about Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. I admit I have not done a good job in this area. I need to step up my game.
