Has anyone heard about this? 10 years ago, an elderly and very wealthy former art dealer who lives in New Mexico, United States, Forest Fenn, hid a treasure chest full of "gold, jewelry and other valuables" worth $1 million was hidden somewhere in the rocky moutnain range, north of Santa Fe. Forest Fenn created a poem designed to "hint" to where exactly the treasure was hidden. This guy established hundreds of thousands of followers and "treasure chasers", including a few people who died while out hunting for the treasure, likely because of the elements or being ill prepared for the wilderness....
Forrest Fenn says he wanted to inspire people to get outdoors, get hiking, and thought that hidden treasure would motivate them. (And it sounds like it DID motivate people, but maybe for the wrong reason).
Someone did find it though, I believe earlier this month, someone from "out east", but the info has not been released yet as to where the treasure chest was found.
This is Forrest Fenn's Poem - the Thrill of the Chase:
As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.
Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.
From there it's no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There'll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.
If you've been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.
So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I've done it tired, and now I'm weak.
So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.
Have you heard about this? I just listened to a podcast about this that came up when I was looking for Rocky Mountain-related podcasts but hadn't heard of it before now. I have read his poem and I don't have any idea how you would figure out where the treasure was based on this info. Do you?
Have you heard anything like this? If you heard about this and it was reasonable to do so, would you hunt after this treasure?
Here's a link I found regarding the finding of it if you need a little more background.

It's a good poem. Why the poet had the gold? Is it literally he has the gold? Is he a miner or a rich man?

I heard about this some time ago but if my memory serves the treasure had not been found at that time and people were doubtful it existed.
