Youtube Channel Recommendation : Tasting History

United States

I've talked about Townsends and English Heritage for historical recipe channels, but I recently came across this one. I've only watched one of his videos so far, but I loved it and subscribed to the channel. Townsends focuses on 18th century cooking and lifestyle and English Heritage focuses on the recipes of one long ago servant as well as other random history... Tasting History is all over the place with their recipes it seems. I like watching cooking on youtube more so than on the food network. Especially historical recipes. Today's plan is to work up the skein of yarn I just attached to the blanket last night, and then take the scraps and knot them together (like color with like color) and then possibly work it into the blanket to. I took some things to goodwill today, but there are still a few more things I need to take another day, including the books I want to get rid of. I also need to make it to the thrift store to try to sell something.
Love Food? Can't get enough of History? Then you've come to the right place. Every Tuesday, I show you how to make a different historic dish while exploring ...

Vevo? Of course that is just for music. Twitch? That's more for gaming.

@piyushbhatia1 Oh yes it definitely does. They have changed the standards for videos as well, so I imagine they are trying to optimize their own earnigns.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I will have to find out. Youtube makes a lot of money by knowing user preferences.

That is something you can find on Townsends youtube channel. It's American based, but they do find some recipes from England and from Germany sometimes.

@Janet357 Well these are historical recipes, but ones that we might still make today just differently. I live in the south of the US, and mostly those from what is now the UK settled here. Germany, Italian and Polish influences are more prominent in the foods in the North part of the US.

@popciclecold It doesn't happen so much anymore, especially with youtube doing their own movie thing now, but you used to be able to find old movies that people uploaded on youtube.

I hope you enjoy it if you do. I need to check it out too, but I tend to forget until I've already turned the tv off for the day.

I like different, even if I don't think I'll ever make any of them. I have had some historically made food before though, from a tavern here in my city.

That is a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I love watching British history but I have not seen this kind of cooking video except that of Jamie Oliver.

I like British History too, but I've started having more of an appreciation of Colonial America lately. I love looking for youtube videos about history.

@thelme55 Townsends has good videos about what it was like. Townsends is actually a re-enactment supply company. They supply re-enactment actors with dress and other supplies. They do youtube videos about cooking and some history about the colonies.

I might like that show too, but I have been to so many historical places here that I would probably be familiar with most of the dishes. I do like programs like that though so I might check it out. The Great British Baking Show sometimes gives historical background on the dishes..or I have seen things like that on PBS. OK I subscribed. That is free right? I didn't know they had dishes from all over the world.

Yep, free to subscribe. Youtube has this new program where you can join as a member to channels and get perks, but I don't plan to ever do that myself. I know there are so many historical places in VA, and one day I'd like to visit a few of them. There's a tavern here in WS that is a historic museum neighborhood and does historic recipes. I've been there once, but want to go there again.

Thank You! Right, what I forgot to mention about the channel is that the guy shares a bit of the history behind the dish as well. I've not been crocheting as much the last few days, but I have been finding new granny squares I want to eventually conquer

I know there's one Indian channel I watch called "Village Veg Food" or something like it. It's a grandmother and her grandsons that make food for the village I believe...

@Butterfingers I am sure I could use the youtube closed captioning to figure it out. I do that for a Japanese Channel I sometimes watch.
