Off duty police officer saves an elderly woman from drowning

Talk about being in the right place at the right time story. An off duty police officer who is employed by the Nassau County Police Department Aviation Unit was in the Wantagh Park Marina on Wednesday afternoon when he heard a scream from an 80 year old senior woman who was trapped underneath the dock after she fell down into the water. The police officer jumped into the water from the top of the dock to do his duty to save the woman from drowning by keeping her head above the water and removing the boards from the dock that had her trapped. My guess is that either the police officer or a concerned citizen contacted 911 to send help when the woman was rescued by the officer from drowning. An ambulance came to the marina to take the rescued woman to a local hospital where she is being treated for her injuries from the fall from the marina into the water. She is expected to recover from her near death experience.
