In the past, Borneo- derived from the sultanate of Brunei - was a name that was bought by the British and Dutch colonials to refer to the island as a whole, while Kalimantan was the name used by the inhabitants of the part of the island which now included Indonesian territory. The northern regions of the island (Sabah, Brunei, Sarawak) for Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. While for Indonesia region, are the North Kalimantan, East kalimantan, South kalimantan, Central kalimantan and West kalimantan provinces, whiche covers 75% from the surface area of the island.
In Indonesia, Borneo is called "Kalimantan".
