Douglas on the move!

United States
July 24, 2020 11:03pm CST
Right now the whole islands of Hawaii are expecting a visit by a category 3 hurricane Douglas as we are approaching the weekend. Covid 19 and now Douglas, what else is in plan for this little rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Just make sure each family has a 72 hour survival kit including non-perishable food, can goods, enough medications, water, portable batteries and other necessary supplies for up to 2 weeks. My motto is...If you are prepared, you will not fear!

@CookieMonster46 I know what you mean because this are small islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and any big waves, storms, or tsunami can have devastating results.

I know how uneasy it can make anyone feel even the bravest of people feel fear. I was seeing a glimpse a rare glimpse of Hawaii and so very beautiful and precious all best protective wishes for it to just flow over and no harm to come to anyone.

@Manasseh0119 Will be thinking of you at that time for it to just fizzle out and do no harm to anyone. I have been in the middle of a nasty storm at sea and pregnant at the time so I understand a bit how you can feel.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Wow.. that must have been a terrifying moment for you especially when you were pregnant at the time. Being in the middle of the ocean is scary because hurricanes and tropical storms can cause huge waves. I don't like when we are told to be prepared for a tsunami.

Thank you and we've seen news updates on how strong this hurricane is while its travelling towards the islands. It is expected to hit at Sunday night so I hope it doesn't do much damage to us especially when most of the islands are surrounded by ocean water.

I wish you the best of luck in dealing with Douglas as it passes through the islands. Stay safe, and be careful! I live in Florida, so I am no stranger to hurricanes. I know firsthand how important it is to be prepared.

@Manasseh0119 They call us the Sunshine State, so yes we do get a lot of sunshine, but we also get just as much rain as well.

Thanks Jeff and you are absolutely correct about being prepared for hurricanes and tropical storms, or other weather problems because I know for sure Florida has been one of the many states that has been affected by category 3 and up hurricanes. Take care and more sunshine to you (hint: Florida is a sunny state, right?) :)

Be careful with this hurricane coming since my relatives went through Hurricanes Cindy and Katrina in 2005.

@Manasseh0119 I will do my best to take care of myself since Hanna will be going toward Texas and miss the Lake Charles area.

Thanks for the advice and who could forget the hurricanes of 2005? They were two of the worst hurricanes to have hit the US. Please stay safe and take care!

It is because we're far from the mainland, and when there's an emergency, it would take hours for help to get here. However, we do have all four branches of the military on the island.

Thank you and it is expected to hit the islands on Sunday evening, so we've been warned to be prepared.
