So here I am with more of the cricket talk. Today it is about a match played during the 1985-86 Tri series : Benson and Hedges World Series Cup. This was between India and Australia at Adelaide Oval. Australia played first and were at one stage in tight situation with 4 for 134 and run rate quite slow. However, allrounder Steve Waugh then played a marvelous innings with some great hits to the boundary. He scored 81 of 75 balls. In the end, wicketkeeper Wayne Philips did some big hitting and the Aussies ended up with a formidable 262 runs. In return, India did not had a good start, and lost some early wickets. Yet Sunil Gavaskar, who played brilliantly in the last few years of his career in ODIs played a brilliant knock of 77. Some of his shots square of the wicket were just superb. He was joined by Ravi Shastri who was also attacking and hit some good fours and sixes. Yet both of them were out, Shastri making a 50 plus score. Later, Kapil Dev tried but he too was out on 25. India were out for 226 runs. Bruce Reid took 5 for 53 runs and was the best Aussie bowler. Aussies won by 36 runs. An exciting match overall. Video Link:

@Butterfingers Yes it is worth watching, even though India did lost because of a couple of soft dismissals- mainly caught behind by wicket-keeper or in the slips.

@Butterfingers I figured that till late 1990s, Indian batting used to revolve around just 1 or 2 folks, and if they got out, India mostly lost, except on a few occasions when allrounders in the lower order played excellently to help India, and that too mostly on Indian wickets. Yet things changed in early 2000s, with Sourav Ganguly at the helm. Players like Rahul Dravid, Laxman, Sourav Ganguly himself, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and later Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan and more supported Sachin on many occasions, and led India to victory. And more wins outside India as well !
