A few book reviews back I read the first book in this series, "I Am Not Me", written by and self-published by a local author and member of my church. In this continuing story (over 700 pages long but in a little larger print), Rodger continues on his journey to make his life purposeful. He meets many lonely people and though he repeats the same message over and over again, each individual had different problems to overcome. I found it a little unbelievable as Rodger was in no way a trained counselor. He spoke like he was one. And he did help them... like he was an educated counselor. The word "hedonistic" came up many times which would have been okay if only spoken by Rodger, but the repetitive use of a word that isn't used in normal every day language made me feel like the author was more intelligent than the reader. (I still don't know what the word means). His final "project", if you will, was aiding his dying friend and co-worker. Ray had lived a life of ill-repute. He had many questions for Rodger about what would happen to him after he was gone. Questions about God. So the end of the book took a very religious turn, but I learned some things as would most readers. There were some very powerful moments in this story. There was a little romance, and a little ugliness... and religion. Overall I enjoyed the story apart from the repetitiveness of Rodger's speech on our life's purpose and the use of the word 'hedonistic'.
