What a gorgeous morning! I’m going to enjoy the daylights out of this! But first, you’re going to be shocked into reality with my discussions about songs that you’ll probably hear on classic rock radio sometime this week. Shocked? Yeah, these songs are “old” (according to the people who think “Tonight Tonight” by Hot Chelle Rae is “old”). Here’s another one you probably know from 1980.
All Night Long - Joe Walsh
As the Eagles disintegrated Joe Walsh didn’t really seem to mind. He’d had a big hit with “Life’s Been Good” in 1978 to pad his already impressive solo résumé that went back to the late 60s with another band (the James Gang). He was also becoming good at soundtracks (not to the point that Phil Collins or Kenny Loggins would, though
): Walsh’s “In the City” was the final song in The Warriors.
So, hey, why not put him in another soundtrack? Gotcha covered: the hard-rocking Walsh had this tune in a movie about country music.
Yeah, I know.
The Urban Cowboy soundtrack yielded a number of hits in both rock (this one) and country (“Lookin’ for Love” by Johnny Lee), and started the “urban cowboy” era of country music, which did more to country music than it did for country music.
This song still gets plenty of airplay, forty years later.

We like a long neck and a good old song:
