So, in addition to my regular job I started driving with Uber last year. I thought I'd share some of the things I see/hear while I'm driving.
The first couple rides yesterday (8/3) weren't very eventful. short trips taking people home from work. Then I picked up an attractive young lady that I dropped off at a tailor shop. She was wearing like a sports bra and had several tatoos. But what was interesting was that she was wearing a skirt that looked like the old MC Hammer pants. I mean I thought they were pants to begin with but they weren't.
A while later I picked up a guy that was going to pick up his Mercedes that had a malfunctioning AC. It was about a 45 minute trip, through the rain, so we had some time to talk. It turns out he travels quite a bit for doing pharmaceutical production work. We talked about quite a few things but when I asked him if he thought we'd have a vaccine for the coronavirus, he told me that he didn't think it would be any time soon. He said that even when a drug is "fast tracked" it takes approximately 5 years. Did you know that?
To close out my evening I picked up an attorney that practices injury law. Another interesting conversation that made his 30 minute trip go by.
I hope to post more about my Uber experiences so I'll have to remember more details.

My son drove for Uber for a while. He had to take an eight-year-old girl to school several times. He made sure that his dashboard camera was on and functioning before he picked her up. He also drove some people on long trips lasting hours. He stopped driving because of Coronavirus and safety concerns.

@Jo Ann - I've picked up a couple "regulars" already. We've chatted and then continued the chat during the next ride.
I also shut down about mid March and just started back up. I like making money (especially since I'm paying some of my credit card debt with my Uber money) but it wasn't worth my health during the height of the virus.

May I ask a personal question about this? Do you get tips for the drive, or just a set fee for the trip?
I’ve only used Uber once, when I was taken by ambulance to the ER. The valet, God bless him, called Uber and paid for my ride (since I didn’t have any money with me). I gave the driver a tip when I got home to “pay forward” what the valet had done. (Then I went back to the hospital, and he wouldn’t take a penny for the Uber ride. As I said, God bless him!)
PS: love your Marvin the Martian!
