A Hand on my Shoulder

The other night, something woke me up. Someone gripped my shoulder with their hand. I woke up swinging my fist and then grabbed for a weapon to defend myself. There was no one there.
I have not been able to sleep well since then. It was not a dream but I don't know what to make of it.
I want to know what you think happened. Did anything like that ever happen to you? Do you have any explanations or theories about this?

A spirit came for a visit. They woke you for a reason.

Did it tie into a particular dream you were having at the time, or was it completely random?

@moffittjc You know, that could be. I remember a time when I had a nightmare, my heart was racing, and I could not breathe well. There was a very loud knocking on my door and it woke me up. Of course, nobody was there.

@akalinus There are so many things in this world that we don't understand, including the spiritual realm. Perhaps each of us does have a guardian angel looking after us, or a loved one who keeps watch. Of course, we may not ever know for sure while on this earth, but hopefully we'll know once we enter the afterlife.

@akalinus It's entirely possible that it could have been him, or maybe even an angel trying to wake you up for some reason. Maybe you were suffering from sleep apnea, and stopped breathing for a minute or two, and a handle shook you awake so you would start breathing again.

You were likely dreaming and woke before your sleep cycle had ended. It happens. Also causes sleep paralysis and other 'strange' things. Whatever it was it can't hurt you but swinging in the dark might.

@Namelesss I am glad that it was comforting to you. It must have been a good spirit.

@akalinus Yes. before my husband passed away last year I would wake to feel someone holding my hand. At first it kind of freaked me out but then I realized it was trying to comfort me. Happened a few times.

I haven't had such an encounter like the one you had, indeed I have heard something like this that happened a friend of a friend, but I thought it was an urban legend or something like that!

@jvicentevalera My husband passed in 2016 and my son's fiancee in the same year. I loved that girl. I have two dear friends who passed in 2017 and my beloved brother in 2018.

@akalinus question is, do you have any loved one, or close friend who recently passed away or something? I have heard stories of people passing away, and then their spirits trying to visit their loved ones sort of like making them know they're still nearby!

Once I was in bed on a summery night so I had my leg out but tucked around my blanket so it was still covering my body and I felt something hit my leg and it felt like a twasse... It's a whip essentially. I woke with a jolt and there was a mark on my leg. It scared me so I messaged my at the time boyfriend Bones and he said "Yeah it was probably my mother because you're being a b*tch to me." From what I remember all I had done was not gone to visit because I was exhausted from getting up at 6am every day for uni.

@Fa_Maverick But you still felt the lash on your leg and it left a mark. How do you account for that?
