Ethanol fuel is fast replacing gas and kerosene fuels. Many homes in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some African countries have opted for ethanol as a cooking fuel. The fuel is used in special stoves that are easy to light up using a matchstick. Since ethanol produces a larger heat flux, cooking takes place faster than when using gas or kerosine. It doesn't produce smoke, soot or smell hence making it pollution free. Can you use ethanol in your home for cooking?

@Butterfingers thanks. Is it the same as the gas that's commonly used? That's stored in gas cylinders?

Here we use propane but I don't really know what the difference is.

The 2 are a bit different. Propane is extremely harmful to the environment since it emits toxic smoke and soot. So ethanol is safer than propane.

That's effective too. It's also widely used in Kenya and Africa at large.

I haven't heard of ethanol used for cooking but ofcourse biogas ( methane) has been in use in Indian villages for cooking purpose.

Some are using it, maybe very few and that's why you aren't aware of this. Yeah, Biogas has been there for years, even in Africa.
