Sorry about the country music. This is the last one in this series of countdowns. At least everybody knows (or knows of) this song, so it’s not going to hurt too much. It might shock you to think of this song as 50 years old, though. Sing along!
#6: Coal Miner’s Daughter - Loretta Lynn

One of my all-time favorites (it’s on my 100 favorites list) in country music. As autobiographical and honest as it gets, from the accent (“I was born’d a coal miner’s daughter”...yes, we talk that way) to the conditions (“in the summertime we didn’t have shoes to wear”).
It was the title track to the album, to Loretta Lynn’s autobiography, and to the award-winning biopic based on the autobiography. (BTW, the movie came out 40 years ago...feeling old yet?)
I remember when this came out. It was a watershed moment in Lynn’s career, and it still stands as one of her greatest hits.

I've always loved this song, even going back to the days of my youth before I ever thought I would like country music.
