Some friends from our new church have a cottage at the Albemarle Sound about 45 minutes from here and they invited my husband and I to preach and sing at their community church service this morning. It was a gorgeous day, bright blue sky and no rain. The water was beautiful on the sound and we sat on rocking chairs on their porch while others sat in their golf carts (social distancing, you know.) We saw some friends we hadn't seen in years...we used to play music and sing together, so it was great to see them again. My husband preached about having gratitude to God for our many blessings and I sang "One Out of Ten" and "Alone." There were about twenty people who gather for outside church service every Sunday. I hope we can join them again sometime. You know, this was how the early Christian church met in homes. We have beautiful cathedrals and church buildings and we tend to think we can only worship God in those places. But even though the churches are closed for the most part, it hasn't stopped believers from worshiping and having church. Jesus said in Matthew 18:20 " For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." So no virus or government or authority can prevent the church, the body of Christ from praising and worshiping our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It just might be in a home or outside on a lovely porch with rocking chairs.

Wherever two or more shall gather.... sounds lovely. I would love to hear your husband preach and you sing.

@1creekgirl that would be lovely and I bet we can make it happen. Cause we’re Catholic we would have to do mass on Saturday and that leaves Sunday for other worship. We have a must attend rule lol

@BelleStarr I would love to meet you both in person. Did I tell you our 26 year old grandson has become a Catholic? He's the first in our family! He gave me a beautiful rosary that he made for me.

Aw, thanks! We're not either one "professional" whatever that means, lol, but If y'all ever get down this way, maybe we can attend church together.

Why did you switch churches? Heh. I admit that I do most of my worshipping by myself, and by doing what I can for the less fortunate (Matthew 6). But I DO enjoy singing gospel songs with friends!

We had been at a small Methodist church for 13 years and it had gotten so liberal, plus the few people still there didn't like us. I know, what's not to like, right? But we're in a small non-denominational church where they like us and most of all they love God!

@TheHorse The Methodists as a denomination have been moving away from what a lot of members believe. Our pastor announced from the pulpit that Mary "may or may not have been a virgin." Church had become a formalized ritual with no scriptural teaching.

@1creekgirl What does "gotten so Liberal" mean? As my "super-Christian" girlfriend so naively and beautifully put it, "Jesus would have been a Democrat if he were here now, right?" But she and I both despise "political correctness."

That sounds wonderful. We talked to missionaries to China, and they talk about meeting in homes since you can to jail for having a Christian church in China.

It's kind of scary that it's almost like that here. And the authorities use the excuse of we're not social distancing, but they allow riots everywhere.

I'm glad you found a church that makes you comfortable and happy. Have a wonderful Monday.

Thanks, Linda. We went to a church for thirteen years that my relatives have gone to for over a hundred years. But there were only about eight people there and the pastor doesn't know the Bible and doesn't visit the sick. It was a hard decision to leave in some ways, but it's wonderful being in a small church where we're loved and welcomed.

Joyce Meyer's Bible studies began in her living room. Now look at her...
