Mercy - the Heart of the Gospel

Another admittance of this puny creature's scanty knowledge about 'The Church We Love,' as if a whole semester in college with a three-unit credit in Theology has gone to oblivion - I knew not about the Heart of the Gospel - and that is Mercy. It was like a rehash of the Book of John, and the Acts of the Apostles, stories I can narrate and retell to others if need be, but something was amiss. for I felt I was 'missing the mark', till I stumbled on our own Cardinal Tagle's take on the 'pastoral' that was Vatican II. Like a hungry student craving for knowledge, I was propelled to the stories of recently ordained saints - Angelo Roncalli and Karol Wojtyla - famously known by their Papal names - John XXIII and John Paul II. The trying lives of these pure souls that inevitably led to the Papacy are the continuing stories of the miserable state of the Church. Saint John XXIII and Saint John Paul II were the modern day apostles who tended to the sheep, especially the lost sheep numbering in exponential form. There's the father in prison for various crimes, widowed mothers making ends meet through any means, teens addicted to pornography and drugs, children molested and left adrift, homosexuals condemned, and the world has adjudged them worthless and invisible. Nope, they are not worthless, they are human beings craving for love, longing for MERCY, if only we have hearts to give - like the gentle hearts of John XXIII and John Paul II

Yes. Without mercy and compassion to the oppressed and the deprived, life seems like not life at all.
