My friend bought a second hand laptop but it broke after 3 days?

My friend wanted to buy a new laptop for work but her family advised her to just buy a used one since it's cheaper. Her sis in law knew someone who was selling her laptop for 310 USD - so she bought it. But then after 3 days the battery overheated or something and the laptop was unusable now. I told her to get at least 290 USD back, but our other friend told her just to get 220 USD back since she's used it already... yeah, for like 3 days? I just hope they'd get to settle it properly since her sis in law was friends with the seller. What would you guys do in this situation?

This is one big reason why I don't buy second hand products. They always come up with some or the other such problems

@amitkokiladitya We have a lot of second hand stores here, it is as common as groceries. You just have to learn how to inspect the clothes well for damages.

Sounds like your friend got duped. I would have never bought a second hand laptop. It is priced cheaper but you'll end up spending more.

My techie friend advised me never to buy a second hand laptop no matter how tempting the price is because there might be hidden faults already that is hard to see unlike when buying a second hand desktop. I just bought a brand new laptop last month I think for my daughter's online classes. Are those people selling really friends?

It was just someone her relative knew... but still a sensitive situation. I heard that laptops have become rare now though, hope she gets to buy a new one.

@lady1993 there is a shortage because of online studies, the one I bought for my daughter only cost me 37k pesos with lots of freebies, now its 40k + and you are right it's getting harder to find.

I bought a refurbished iPad Pro, which I’m using now, but I bought it from a reputable dealer, you do have to be careful with used laptop. $310 seems a bit high for a used laptop I bought my niece and nephew one a couple of years ago for just over $100 and ir works fine..l

Indeed, that was an expensive second hand laptop. She got her money back though, so that's good. I hope she gets to buy a new one, laptops are rare now because of virtual learning.

i love second-hand products, but i won't accept any second-products from my relatives or friends.i have to take it before i used and tested. It's just like a flea market and a treasure game.I'm very enjoying in it,because i'm a poor person.Surely sometimes,i will buy some bad second-hand products, but most of time, they're very good and necessary to me

That should never have happened. I hope she gets some money back. I am not a fan of laptops but have to use one now since a storm put out my desktop PC. Yesterday the laptop overheated but today it is working fine.

yes, fortunately she got a full refund. She kinda ranted to me that her sis in law got annoyed because she was always asking for updates on the refund. But that's her right too.

I have to check it up first. I know anything which costs very cheap is inferior.

I think your friend should take money back at least $290 like you said or change it to another one if the seller has replacement.
