Day 28 Promise 485 Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Life is full of stories true and fictional about visions of angels. Most are hard to believe even when there is no other explanation for what happened. Luke wrote a letter to Theophilus of the account of Jesus’ life from the beginning when Gabriel appeared first to Zacharias, and then to Mary. Zacharias didn’t believe what the angel told him and the angel struck him dumb. Then Gabriel went to Mary and told her what would soon happen, and she believed. As Christians, you are familiar with the account of Jesus’ birth. Mary believed everything Gabriel told her. Her Son would be the Son of God who would give Him the throne of His father, David. Gabriel also told her His throne would be an everlasting kingdom. Many people and religions don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God. They look at Him as a prophet and nothing more. Yet, the day will come when Jesus returns and every eye will see Him and every tongue will confess Him and every knee will bow to Him as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (KJV) On that day everyone will bow to Jesus and acknowledge Him as Savior and Lord. For those who rejected Jesus, it will be an unwelcome surprise as their eternal destination isn’t heaven. Recognition of who Jesus is will come too late for their salvation. For those who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, it will be a day of rejoicing. Mary accepted what Gabriel told her and rejoiced at the privilege to be the mother of the Son of God. Have you accepted Jesus as the Son of God? Let’s pray: Father, I rejoice in my salvation, knowing Jesus came once as a baby and will come again as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. Help me have patience until the day of His return. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 4 September 2020 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
