In this video, The Cosmonaut explains that DC (action-adventure 'universe' whose name technically stands for "Detective Comics," but it's one of those acronyms that doesn't really stand for words now (like KFC technically stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken)) ... anyway ... He explains that DC's characters are all 'wrong' (i.e. different from the original comic-books) because they've been taken over by producers who sacrifice the original details for the sake of 'whatever idea comes into their head.' https://youtu.be/PraUjsClgDM But that's not even what this post is about. It's about a comment he makes at about 4-minutes-45-seconds in, regarding a bunch of TV-series that branch off of the DC-universe---Supergirl, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman (maybe?) & Arrow (after-whom this group of shows is called The Arrow-verse ... I think it's because the 'Arrow' character sacrifices himself in order to---I forget, "save the multiple-universes" or "combine them all back into one universe" or something?) The Cosmonaut says that those shows aren't really 'superhero-shows' (though they all DO star superheroes), but they're essentially "soap operas." I thought about that, and realized that all the TV-shows I 'grew up' watching (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, SMALLVILLE, Lois & Clark, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE ... even F*R*I*E*N*D*S, Roseanne, how i met your mother, The Big Bang Theory---I've 'postponed' my "growing up") were all basically 'soap operas.' (Heck ... I think I've heard that "Jedi" was actually George Lucas' transcription of the Japanese for 'soap-opera' ) Sure, the action-stories had the sci-fi/fantasy premises & the comedies had their humor; but the reason I kept coming back to the shows usually involved 'wanting to see which direction the story-arc goes.' I guess my 'sci-fi/adventure/comedy soap-operas' took the place of "friends in-real-life"

You know when I was growing up there were so many shows I just had to watch. Now when I have had the chance to find some of them online to see again I often wonder what I saw in them in the first6 place. It was mostly a way to pass the time.

What an awakening! Am glad you did. Don't worry, I did watch Daredevil and enjoyed the soap. The Big Bang is still a default, and my daughter discovered Friends, sigh. Not much to worry there, soap operas could be mirrors of our selves. Thanks for the DC acronym - I've been wanting to know what it stands for - for ages. Hay. Ha ha
