Hurricane Sally made landfall this morning, just below a cat-3 storm (after the “experts” saying it’d made landfall as a category 1 storm...proving that “they” don’t know anything!). Prayers for those dealing with two feet of rainfall and all the damage. I’m not “celebrating” the hurricane, but looking at the name “Sally” in song. Here’s today’s tune.
#9: Sally - Grand Funk Railroad
That’s an easy enough title, isn’t it.
The “Sally” in question in this song is Sally Kellerman, the actor, who had the best line in M*A*S*H the movie (after Major Houlihan was the target of a joke she burst into Colonel Blake’s tent, screaming, “This isn’t a hospital! It’s an insane asylum!”). It seems that she and GFR member Mark Farmer were dating at the time, and this was his tribute.
This was a minor single in 1976, certainly not to the level of success as “We’re an American Band” or “Bad Time,” but I remember it.
Wonder what Kellerman thought of it.
