Day 42 Promise 500 Luke 18:9 And he spoke this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted. Who do you trust? Many people trust themselves rather than others who more often than not are untrustworthy. Those who trust only in themselves are often arrogant, thinking they are better than others. Jesus showed the people that those who sounded good and pious were not as spiritual as they sounded. They were showy, doing things to lift themselves up and gain the praise of the people. It was the person who felt he wasn’t worthy, who found praise with God. As Christians, you aren’t worthy. You aren’t better than your neighbor. You know you can’t do anything without God’s help. Your worth comes from God. He makes you worthy through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. When you put on the clothes of righteousness given you the moment you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you became worthy of all the praise and honor God has for His children. No, you aren’t better than anyone else, but you are worthy of the love and blessings God has for His children. Let’s pray: Father, You alone make me worthy of the love You have for me. Help me to see myself through Your eyes and not think of myself more highly than I ought. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 18 September 2020 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

None of us are without sin for sure, and arrogance and pride can be the downfall of many.
