Fear not, you won’t know this one. Today’s song on the list of favorites with “Sally” in the title is from one of those bands you have to be a fan of (in the US, anyway) to know their music. I am, so I do. And here they are, for your drinking and dining pleasure. #6: Sally MacLennane - Pogues So let’s mix Irish Celtic folk music, punk, heavy drinking, and rock and roll, and throw in a lead singer with awful teeth! Think they’ll be popular? Yes!!! That’s an oversimplification of the Pogues (interesting factoid from Picky Wedia: the band’s original name was Pogue Mahone, an English transliteration of a Celtic phrase meaning “Kiss my ar*e” ), but it’s about the easiest way to describe them for the people who haven’t heard them (which is the majority of Americans). For the record, nearly all of the members throughout the history of the band were born in England, not Ireland. This song is a pretty good example of their sound, too. This was a fun band. I can’t believe an album titled Rum Sodomy & the Lash wasn’t #1 in America.
