Day 50
Promise 508
Luke 22:66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
Many things in life are unbelievable. It takes much proof to turn doubt to belief.
Jesus was before the chief priest, elders, and scribes. They had their minds made up about who he was but wanted to hear it from His lips so they could accuse Him of blasphemy. Jesus kept quiet until the question of who He is was put to Him. He told them two things. One, they would see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of the power of God. Two, when asked directly if He was the Son of God, He confirmed His identity.
As Christians, you know His confirmation of who He is, the Son of God, brought about His death and your salvation. From that moment anyone who acknowledged Jesus as Savior and Lord would receive all the benefits of being a child of God.
Are you still looking for proof of who Jesus is, or have you accepted that He is the only one who could take your sin and cleanse you from all unrighteousness and dress you in robes of righteousness?
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word be all the proof I need to know Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Let doubt and unbelief flee before the truth of who Jesus is, the Son of God. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I think what's interesting is that it wasn't like they didn't see Jesus perform miracles throughout his ministry, because they witnessed a lot of it firsthand. The issue was that they had come up with so many laws and rules and regulations that cemented their control and power over the daily religious and political lives of the Israelites that they didn't want to lose that grip on their power, no matter how compelling the evidence was that Jesus was the Messiah. It's sad, because they chose to serve power and greed and corruption instead of a loving relationship with God, and this hardened their hearts to who Jesus really was.
But on the flip side, had they recognized and accepted Jesus for who he truly was, then they would not have crucified him, and then he wouldn't have been able to die for our sins on the cross. In the end, everything worked out according to God's plan.
