Cactus Insulin

Has anyone ever heard of using the Napol Cactus to treat diabetes? I have a friend from Mexico who told me of this usage. I didn't even know you could eat cactus. I did some research and found out that this cactus is also and anti-inflammatory food. I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for about 20 years. We moved into our current home about 10 years ago. There is a Napol Cactus growing in our front yard. For 10 years, I have had an insulin source growing in my yard and did not even know it. For the last 3 weeks I have been making cactus juice to drink everyday. Now it doesn't work as strong as insulin or as quickly, but after 3 weeks of drinking the juice, I am taking 30 units less insulin per day. I saw results after a week. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

I have not heard of cactus being used to treat diabetes, but I have heard of it being an anti-inflammatory. That's really cool that you found an insulin source right in your own yard! Maybe you should buy more cactus plants so that you have a huge inventory of insulin source!

I definitely need to purchase and plant more. It takes so much of the plant to get enough juice that I need a cactus orchard.

What does the juice taste like? I would love for my hubby to try this. He has been on insulin for years just like you were.

It has a very slight salad taste. I mix it with artifically sweetened juices.

It is Nopal, not napol. Nopal has many uses.

@gnatsmom No problem. The nopal has been used before the europeans came to America

Have you consulted your doctor about the cactus and the lessening of insulin dosage?

I see my doctor every 6 months. He knows that I adjust my insulin as needed. He is the one who suggested that. I have a book where I keep my glucose readings and insulin dosage. However, there are several prescriptions prescribed for me that I refuse. I will treat myself, naturally, as much as possible. All those medications that my dad's doctor gave to him killed him. I will not pump poison if I can treat naturally.

@gnatsmom Yes, that is true. Rule of thumb is we know our own body more than any one. It is just the drastic insulin change can cause shock to the body. 30 units is huge. But I suppose you did that gradually.

@eileenleyva yes it was gradual. I had to do a gradual decrease last year when I started a more active exercise program. The added exercise was causing glucose drops, so I had to decrease insulin.
