SCAM ALERT: Avoid this online teaching platform at every cost!

I"m not one for naming and shaming scammy sites but this time, I feel I have to speak up because money was involved. Nobody likes to be made a mug of AND robbed of their hard-earned money, no matter how small the amount. And in this case, it's not even so much about the money but rather the PRINCIPLE. So, long story short: I've been trying to jump on the online teaching bandwagon and finally chose buddyschool.comas one of the sites to try. To be listed, you have to pay a small fee. Against my better judgement, I went ahead and registered and paid, only for BuddySchool to deny all knowledge of me, never having received payment from me and subsequently shutting down my account! Attempts to prove my point have fallen on deaf ears. I even sent screenshots of payment leaving my Paypal account but BuddySchool chose to 'ghost me'! I never thought I could be scammed so easily after years of working online but here we are So, to those who are looking to teach remotely; please be warned! Save yourself the stress and give BuddySchool a miss or proceed with EXTREME CARE. Have a good day and stay safe This here is the site: buddyschool.com Image credit: jooinn.com

I know - and that's usually my argument against paying to join a site!

Odd question but if your teaching online why would you go through this system vs who has hired you? Are you freelancing? Yes scams are out there, which is the sucking part.

@Lushlala I don’t know where you getting the race thing front. All I asked was if your a teacher hired by a school why would you be looking to remote teach through something else? You answered that now indeed. By stating you use to be a teacher so you felt remote learning would be good to try. Which is totally fine with the current time. Where you live has nothing to do with race it has to with location location isn’t about your skin color or culture just where you current location. If some places doesn’t want someone based on where they come from or the way they look I wouldn’t work for them. If they say you need to be white I can always tell people I’m white which is very much turns. I wouldn’t work for anyone if they didn’t want me based on experience no pay. Because a job doesn’t make you pay for things they should pay you or repay for your time after you bought it completed something.

@ShyBear88 Eh, I was responding in detail to your whole response? But I'm glad you ultimately had your question answered in my response. I'm not sure why this suddenly feels like a passive aggressive response on your part but whatever. Have you tried to get on any of the remote teaching platforms? Do you have any experience of them to come at me like you are?! I'm not sure why you've taken the stance you have with regards to my post when I'm simply stating my own personal experience, which if you did a little digging you'd glean from your research that the situation is exactly as I've stated. Until I became enlightened, I applied to as many sites as I could but knowing what I know now, of course, I don't bother anymore. As I've said elsewhere on this thread, whether I agree with the sites discriminating applicants on the basis of race or not is immaterial. It's their platforms and they have the prerogative to hire whoever they want to hire - or not. I've made peace with it and moved on. It's no skin off my nose. I usually refuse to pay sites to work on them, but it's fairly common on these teaching sites. So like many people out there do, there are times when I take a leap of faith. However, I won't be doing it ever again.

So bad. Internet is home for so many scams. Sincere people coming to earn some money hard way become victims of these scams.

Thank you for this tip. My father always adviced me when I was young, anything that ask you to pay first is a scam. (though we are not talking of legal services here)
