Before I hit the road in search of adventure I’ll give you another song with “baby” in the title. And, oh baby, did you know that one day your luck would run out and I’d start posting country music. Hold your ears, here it comes! Cajun Baby - Hank Williams Jr. If you look at the video (with the sound muted, lest you get a headache ) you’re probably thinking I’ve lost my mind, that’s not Hank Jr. Well, no, it’s not the “are-you-ready-for-some-football-because-all-my-rowdy-friends-are-coming-over-tonight” Hank Jr. The one that most younger people are familiar with. The one that boasted, “We know Van Halen, we like ZZ Top” in the song “Young Country.” Nope, that’s not him. Hank Jr. had two careers, basically cut in half by his near-fatal fall from a mountain in Montana in 1975. Instead of “standing in the shadows of a very famous man” he began to be “Bocephus” (if you’re wondering, that’s not his middle name or anything [his birth name is Randall Hank Williams, so technically he’s not even a “junior”]: “Bocephus” was the name of a puppet that country comedian Rod Brasfield used in his act in the 40s, and Hank nicknamed his son after that puppet!), pretty much resembling his father only in how much hell he could raise. My preference in Hank Jr.’s career is the earlier stuff, where he sounded a little more like Hank Williams and less like Cliff Williams (the latter being a member of AC/DC, if you’re interested...or even if you’re not interested ). That would include this song, which is an interesting co-writing project. Hank Jr. had a large collection of lyrics that his father had written but never set music to (or, if he had, never did a demo tape of). The project was called Songs My Father Left Me: the Poetry of Hank Williams Set to Music and Sung by Hank Williams Jr. And now you know a little about one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Cajun Baby Written by Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr. Recorded by Hank Williams Jr. From Songs My Father Left Me, 1969 On a Saturday night we go dancing:
