Local delicacies

There was a time I mentioned cassava puto here, at least this is the English translation already. Puto is a steamed cassava cake with sweetened grated coconut inside. (the white one in the pic) Rice cake, or Ibus as we call it, is a delicacy in Albay, a province in the Philippines. It is made of glutinous rice and they add a bit of salt. I know some Filipinos have tried them but I doubt if some of you ever do. Photo is mine.

Cassava is very nutritious. Cassava along with yam is staple food of some African countries but they just boil and pound it and take with some stew.

@Janet357 there are many. one of them is Gethuk. This sweet dish is made from cassava which was previously boiled and then finely ground. Gethuk is usually served with a sprinkling of grated coconut.

I miss these! I tried to make some by following some YouTube videos but for some reason they did not turn out as good as what I am used to back there. I guess availability of fresh ingredients matter a lot - I was able to buy cassava from an Asian store here, but it's frozen.
