Kids Pounding Rice

In some mountains in the Cordillera, kids pound rice before playing together. It is a simple life living in highland areas. But then, they still need to be educated. Some of them cannot go to university after finishing high school. I showed this photo to my niece to see what it's like for some kids who cannot have the chance to go to school. Do you like hiking mountains? Do you want to live with the villagers?

I like going to mountains, especially up north. I befriend some kids when I went to Sagada, unfortunately that time no signal was available there and social media and phone is not that necessity.

If you go to Sagada now, the signal is accessible now. I went there last year. I did enjoy being here.

@Shavkat oh yes, the signal is good, there is an internet shop already and they have hot showers. ahaha My first time to go there was 2000. No signal and you have to order hot water for bath. I went there for a total of five times. I am looking forward to going back with my kids

@rakski I am sure they will love in Sagada. The only difference is we need tourist guides in exploring the caves now.

Very nice that you somehow documented some of the daily activity they do in their lives up there in the mountains. I guess they become more responsible doing those hard jobs of pounding rice for their family.

Actually, I documented all the villages that I handled at that time. The books were in the DSWD-CAR library. I still have the soft copies. In time, I will print them out and have them in my mini-library in the future.

@Shavkat That seems to be a nice personal project of yours. Hope you can share that too in here when you’re done.

@rsa101 I will share them soon. I just need more time. I haven't published my book that was created in Tajikistan. I need an illustrator to finish it.

Do you like hiking mountains? Yup, was part of a mountaineering group before. Do you want to live with the villagers? Yes, we have immersion trips and we spend 2-3 days living together with villagers.

I do love to hike anywhere. Those kids are great to be working so hard.

They did work so hard. The harvested golden rice is their personal consumption. It is nice to do scavenger hunting while hiking in the mountains.

Since I am living on the mountain, it is inevitable not to do hiking. I hope you can try it in the future.

These children must be very strong. My experience is very bad, my maximum hit is only 10 and with multiple people is big No to me. I will never forget how my mother is very concern with particular wood with regards to durability. She once even scolded the seller for telling lie to her as it was made from bad tree trunk.

I am sure they are strong kiddies living on the mountain. Even I cannot last with this pounding of rice.
