I got the carter and she got the bonquet

Back when my aunt got married 19 years, they had this throwing of bonquet and garter on the reception. This woman got the bonquet and I got the garter. I went as far getting it to her legs and my brother poke me in the head 
But it'was impossible because I thought she was a relative and later I learned she's not and just her father was close friend of hers. Her brother was a popular producer in local network. She was married but later divorced with two kids.
Looking back maybe I should have just sat back and watch..Though I got the garter I haven't married yet. I wonder what if i knew she wasn't related...
