They Set Me Up

Here in our town, we have a very small Filipino community. I used to be an active participant in all parties and get-together, but life happens and my priorities changed. I know some of them did not take kindly to me always opting out of parties, not being able to help out, or contribute. But I honestly thought that they know better than to expect someone with a full-time job to be able to drop everything at a moment's notice, unlike those who do not have work commitments or young children to take care of.
A few weeks ago, a member of our small community passed away. I found the news of her passing on Facebook, and I reached out to them to let us know of any plans so we can also help out or attend the program.
One Thursday afternoon, I received a text message from another member that her memorial is that afternoon which will start in half an hour. I am in a middle of a meeting and I still have 2 hours to go before I can leave work. I was very disappointed that I am learning of this at the last minute, but I said that it's a tough one but I will do my best to catch up with them. Unfortunately, the meeting lasted longer than I thought, and I am a very active participant. I was not able to go.
Then this week, I heard rumors that I have a heart of stone for not paying my respects to a departed friend and member of our community. Again, these are rumors so there is a chance that this is not even true, but I believe that it will not circulate if no one is transmitting it. I am not even mad, just sad that such thoughts are even being entertained.
I would like to blame the pandemic and being bored as the culprit
