Day 83 Promise 542 John 17:1 These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. People want to live forever. Some believe in the Fountain of Youth. Movies depict people who search for and obtain immortality. Yet every search for immortality ends in a dead end. People die. As Jesus prayed before His arrest and crucifixion, His prayer showed people can obtain eternal life. As Christians, you know you will die, but you also know you have eternal life. Jesus gave you the right to eternal life when you accepted Him as Savior and Lord. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (KJV) 1 Corinthians 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. You receive immortality only through accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. So then when you die a mortal death, your soul which is immortal, will live eternally with Jesus in heaven. Have you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord? Have you put on immortality through faith in Jesus? The Fountain of Youth doesn’t exist, but Jesus does, and He gives eternal life to everyone who accepts Him. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your Word which shows me how to obtain eternal life. Let Your Word dwell in me so that I can show others how to receive eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 31 October 2020 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
