Some people more attracted to foreign cultures than their own: Why?!?

In a real-life setting, some people are like this. They tend to forget their own cultures, especially if they had moved to a specific country. For me, it is not good to forget one's root. If a person does this, it will be a bad thing. It means he or she will not be able to identify himself or herself in society. I had noticed this with some of my friends who chose to live in another country. Did you ever forget your cultures by adapting new ones in another country? Image Credit: basicknowledge101.com

It's like the old saying - 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do.' It's not like forgetting our culture, it's more like adapting to a culture so one could belong.

I do agree with you. We adapted them and continue to practice and do them.

Hmm I don’t really see it as a bad thing. If you came here you would have to adapt to some of the changes in our culture and I would have to do the same if I went there. Some things that are considered okay there would not be allowed here and vice versa.

I tend to try new stuff, but doesn't mean I'll forget my root. Even now I keep trying new food and do new things. It's not a bad thing for me. Trying and forgetting my root are definitely two different things.

No! I think those kind of people are soooo full of themselves and think that they are much higher than others, sometimes when I meet people like them, my blood boils especially when started to speak... especially in English, they are so trying hard, I mean you can really sense and hear that they are having difficulty in speaking English, and yet they still insist they already to speak their native language, and their pronunciation and accent is really bad also. duh!

I can relate to you. I sometimes cannot conceal my feelings and call their attention to being like this.

of course we are attracted and interested in a different culture and tradition that makes us seek more about it. It starts with curiosity. But it does not mean I forget our own. I actually plan to explore the beauty of our country

People always looking for greener grass, and the neatest cultures usually the quietest ones, the ones that are loud usually the worst.

Yes some people do comparisons and take other people's culture. But I think culture is inherent. So I may not adapt to other cultures.

I have friends who migrated to other countries too, some are just working. They still have the same values, none of them have changed. I think it depends on the person. Maybe others are just curious and admiring other cultures but forgetting where you came from is hypocrisy.
