The parable of the five wise virgins and five foolish virgins waiting for the coming of the groom had a moment of quandary - when the five foolish ones asked for oil to light their lamps from the five wise ones, because the groom was finally arriving. The five wise virgins were adamant, that the oil they have were just enough, that the foolish virgins seek oil for their lamps from the merchants. They did. And when the groom came, the door was shut closed for the foolish ones.
Have you enough oil to light your lamp?
The lamp and the oil are, of course, symbols for the light. Therefore, it is important to keep the lamp clean. In the olden days, the oil, especially of good quality, is an expensive commodity. Oil is used to anoint and consecrate. That is why oil is difficult to ordinarily buy in the market place. Today, oil remains an expensive commodity.
That is also the reason why the wise virgins did not give their oil, it is something that cannot be imparted on a moment's notice. Another way of saying is, character is built in one's self. That is why the foolish virgins failed to enter, they were actually borrowing 'character.'
The virgins were torchbearers for the Light, our Lord. Must be ready when He comes. The lamps must be filled with oil.

As many who profess they are Christians now are foolishly missing the mark. It is one thing to say one is a Christian, or a Catholic, but are they living truly a Christ-like life?

@eileenleyva Each of us will have to answer that question. God notices all and misses nothing.

@kanuck1 Yup, in the briefcases of our lives, everything is presupposed to the the littlest detail.
