Scientology: as Christianity 'saves you from Sin,' Scientology 'saves you from Engrams'

I'm watching Leah Remini's "Scientology & the Aftermath" (it's an A&E series, but I'm watching it on NETFLIX and the picture is from where the series is syndicated to hulu), and it made me curious how the group started. Apparently L. Ron Hubbard--recovering from WWII-trauma--developed DIANETICS ... a way of making sure your Reactive Mind (which takes over when you encounter high stress situations) calms back down and gives your brain back to your Analytical Mind. They say https://www.scientology.org/what-is-scientology/basic-principles-of-scientology/ that your Reactive Mind is empowered over your Analytical by 'Engrams'---memory-packages in which 'bad opinions about yourself' (even though they're 'only opinions') are remembered as 'as factual as the traumatic things that happen to you at the same time as you hear-or-think the opinions' (traumas which truly do happen). I'm not sure if this is 'how they do this,' but I hear that Scientology ministers give new Scientologists counciling sessions known as Audits, during which they guide the newbie in "forgetting" the trauma (eliminating the Engram, giving them a reading of "Clear" on the E-meter). That's where some conflict comes to my mind. I guess I need to learn more about it; but I think it's not good to completely forget trauma, as it's important to remember ... I dunno ... My personal trauma---I wouldn't want to go through it again, nor would I wish it on anyone (friend OR enemy); but without it, I wouldn't be such an awesome guy What do you think about Scientology, Dianetics, or trauma?

These are interesting ideas. The problem with Scientology is that they started holding people with ways that keep them from leaving if they want to. I read some of her book and it was a shame they kept babies unattended and in filthy conditions. Someone should have called the police. Then it becomes dangerous to the mind

from http://www.schuminweb.com/life-and-times/life-2008/project-chanology-part-2/
I watched a couple more episodes of her A&E-series ... one of the ways 'CSI' keeps people from leaving is 'the policy of Disconnection'---where members of the church are forbidden from communicating with family-members who leave the church (except to complain about the hateful things the church tells them the ex-member did ... I'm feeling like I should start calling them 'ICS (International Church of Scientology ... instead of "Church of Scientology International"')---to avoid confusing it with a crime-drama series) I'm going through all their free online-courses (or at-least 'looking at overviews of them') https://www.scientology.org/courses/dynamics/overview.html ... I happened to go straight to one about "The Dynamics of Existence," and they say that The Human does EVERYTHING so that 'Dynamics' (basically, 'power-houses in their life') SURVIVE. And they say that ONE of those human dynamics is 'family'---maybe that's why the church tries to convince members (through stories about 'reincarnation' ... "your mother is your mother--yes--but not your ONLY mother---she's one of MANY mothers you will have over the course of MANY reincarnations" ). My Analytical Mind can look at that & see it as ICS's attempt to dismantle the human-machine by replacing the natural, "Heavenly Father"-given 'power-source' with a power-source THEY control.

@mythociate I see, this is quite complicated and off beat stuff.

@db20747 That's one of the reasons they fill the screen (every 10 minutes or so) with a 'disclaimer' ... basically text saying that the church disavows any of the stories being told by ex-members & has documentation of those ex-members' "unsteady mental-state." And how the church hasn't made any responses to specific questions ... since there's probably more to 'why the hurt happened' than the ex-members are gonna tell us.
